Iranian shorts win awards at FFTG fest

Iranian shorts ‘Ava’s Silence’ and ‘A Trivial Thing’ win awards at the 2020 FFTG Awards Film Festival in the US.

Iranian short films ‘Ava’s Silence’ and ‘A Trivial Thing’ have garnered 12 awards at the first edition of the FFTG Awards Film Festival in the US.

Directed and written by Seyyed-Qolamreza Nematpour, ‘Ava’s Silence’ won the following awards:

Best Drama Short Film

Best Director

Best Writer

Best Actress

Best Cinematography

Best Sound Design

Best Music

‘Ava’s Silence’ narrates the story of a girl named Ava. She has to work in her ill father’s auto shop. She is waiting for her brother to return from military service so she can marry her fiancé.

The cast list of the flick includes Mahshid Dalvand, Amir-Masoud Masoudi, Morteza Fallahi, Ilia and Ahoura Dargahi, Hamid-Reza Hafezi, Seyyed-Taha Najafinejad, Hassan Ahmadvand, Sobhan Mohammadpour, Faezeh Khansari, and Peyman Karamzadeh.

The short film has been scheduled to compete at the 2020 Ealing Film Festival in the UK on December 31.

The awards of ‘A Trivial Thing’, directed by Seyyed-Morteza Sabz-Qaba, are as follows:

Best Experimental Short Film

Best Director

Best Writer

Best Actor

Best Sound Design

‘A Trivial Thing’ narrates the story of a young man who wishes to become an actor and play on theatre stages.

Also written by Sabz-Qaba, the short film’s cast includes Majid Ardalan and Ali Qasemi. 

The 12-minute short has already participated in a number of global film events, including the Kanyakumari International Film Festival in India, the Merida Film Festival in Mexico, the Lift-Off International Film Festival in the UK, the 4th Venice International Film Festival, and the Alter do Chao Film Festival in Brazil.

The FFTG Awards aims to provide an opportunity for independent filmmakers to showcase their films.

According to the FFTG Awards’ website, “its mission is to enable and empower everyone who has a passion for filmmaking. FFTG Awards aims to present the widest choice of content from around the world by providing filmmakers a platform to showcase their stories and connect them with its audience, establish their brand”.

The event was held on December 5-13, 2020.
